The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 178 Nigerian returnees from Niamey, Niger Republic, as part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return initiative facilitated by the Federal Government and international partners.
The returnees arrived on November 24, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m. via an Asky Airlines flight that landed at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
In a statement shared on NEMA Kano’s official Facebook page, the agency confirmed that officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) immediately conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate records and support a seamless reintegration process.
After the airport procedures, the returnees were transported to the NIS Training School for further profiling by relevant stakeholders — a process completed on Tuesday.
NEMA highlighted the joint efforts of key partners, including the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS).
According to the agency, the collaborative approach ensured that the reception exercise was “well-organized, efficient, and centered on the dignity and welfare of all returnees.”
A demographic breakdown showed:
94 male adults
33 male children
32 female adults
19 female children
NEMA noted that the Assisted Voluntary Return initiative is part of a broader federal effort to support Nigerians abroad who wish to voluntarily return home and reintegrate into their communities.
