Kaduna, Nigeria | The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Deputy Superintendent Sani Yakubu, a senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), before the Kaduna State High Court for allegedly diverting ₦1.7 million belonging to a private citizen.
Yakubu appeared before Justice Isiaka of High Court 12 on Monday, November 4, 2025, on a three-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of funds.
According to a statement released on Friday by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, the commission accused Yakubu of diverting ₦1,720,000 that was entrusted to him on behalf of Mrs. Vennica Idoko while acting in his official capacity as an NSCDC officer.
The ICPC said the offence contravenes Sections 294, 300, and 86 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State.
“Deputy Superintendent Sani Yakubu, while serving as an officer of the NSCDC, dishonestly misappropriated the sum of ₦1,720,000 belonging to Mrs. Vennica Idoko, being money officially received by him on her behalf,” the charge sheet read.
In a dramatic twist during court proceedings, Yakubu reportedly broke down in tears and pleaded guilty to all three counts, openly admitting to the offence.
Following his plea, Justice Isiaka adjourned the case to November 12, 2025, for judgment and sentencing.
Reacting to the development, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare reaffirmed the commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and abuse of office, warning that no public servant would be spared if found guilty of misusing their position for personal gain.
“This case is a clear reminder that corruption, no matter the amount, erodes public trust and will not be tolerated,” Bakare said.
In a related case earlier this year, Hobnob News recalls that the ICPC also arraigned Christiana Goka, a former Deputy Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for allegedly misappropriating over ₦5.3 million meant for a government retreat in Jigawa State.
The commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in the public service through consistent enforcement of anti-corruption laws.
