Delta APC Leaders Renew Push for Anioma State, Call It an Act of Justice and National Unity

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North have renewed their call for the creation of Anioma State, urging the National Assembly to address what they described as a long-standing injustice in Nigeria’s state structure — particularly the imbalance that has left the South-East with only five states.

In a letter dated November 3, 2025, and signed by the Chairman of APC Delta North Senatorial District, Chief Adizue Eluaka, the group described the demand for Anioma State as the collective and united aspiration of the Anioma people, rooted in their shared cultural and historical identity.

“The APC Delta North Senatorial District is fully and unequivocally in support of the creation of Anioma State. Its realisation is both a matter of fairness and strategic necessity for Nigeria’s unity,” Eluaka stated.

According to him, the agitation for Anioma State has unanimous support across Delta North and represents the region’s deep-seated desire for equity within the Nigerian federation.

“We call upon the distinguished Senate to act in solidarity with the legacy of Chief Dennis Osadebey and other Anioma patriots who championed this noble cause. The creation of Anioma State would not only honour their vision but also promote unity, representation, and administrative balance within our nation,” Eluaka added.

The APC leader commended Senator Ned Nwoko for spearheading the legislative efforts toward Anioma State creation, noting that his bill to correct the South-East’s numerical disadvantage in state distribution had given the movement new energy and credibility.

He explained that the South-East currently has five states, while other zones have six and one has seven — a disparity he described as “a fundamental imbalance that must be corrected for the sake of justice and national harmony.”

Eluaka emphasised that the Anioma proposal remains the most comprehensive and widely supported state-creation bill before the National Assembly, enjoying both national sympathy and legitimacy.

Reflecting on the region’s historical experience, he said the Anioma people suffered discrimination and hardship during the civil war because of their Igbo identity.

“The tragic experience of stigmatisation and persecution left deep scars. The creation of Anioma State would serve as a healing process — an act of historical justice, restoration, and affirmation of our shared identity,” Eluaka said.

He urged the National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu to consider the Anioma proposal as a national unification project, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fairness, inclusion, and representation.

“The creation of Anioma State will not only correct an age-long imbalance but also reaffirm the National Assembly’s resolve to promote equity, unity, and justice among Nigeria’s federating units,” Eluaka concluded.
