The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of seven passengers along the Benin–Akure Road near Obarenren and Odunwongie communities. The incident occurred on October 25, 2025, and sparked an immediate security response.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said officers from the Ekiadolor Division were deployed to the scene following a distress call.
According to the statement, armed men ambushed a 14-seater Hummer bus with registration number KJA 119 XF, driven by one Francis Okeke, and forcefully led 15 passengers into a nearby forest.
Security operatives pursued the attackers and successfully rescued eight victims, including three children, unharmed. However, seven passengers remain missing, and efforts are ongoing to secure their safe release.
“A full-scale manhunt is underway, supported by advanced tracking tools, to ensure the remaining victims are rescued,” the police said. “The driver is currently assisting with investigations.”
The Command urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to security agencies. Emergency contact numbers were also provided for public use.
Meanwhile, the report highlights that kidnapping remains a persistent concern in parts of Edo State. A retired headmaster, identified as Mr. Eliaser Olorunloju, was recently abducted along the Igarra–Uneme-Nekhua–Ibillo road, with his kidnappers demanding a N70 million ransom.
There have also been several rescue operations in recent weeks, including that of a teenager named Blessing by the Edo State Security Corps and another victim, Aisha Wahab, who regained freedom days after her abduction in Auchi.
Despite arrests and ongoing security measures, the continued incidents have raised concerns among residents, particularly in rural and highway-connected communities.
Authorities have reaffirmed their resolve to intensify security patrols and dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.
