President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a two-year tenure extension for the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.
The decision, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, aims to consolidate ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s geospatial data systems and national land administration.
The extension, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, follows the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency—placing geospatial intelligence and national surveying operations directly under the executive arm of government.
With the new extension, Adebomehin will now serve until January 2028.
Onanuga explained that President Tinubu expects Adebomehin to build on the existing reforms, focusing on improving national land management, highway and land infrastructure coordination, reclamation efforts, erosion control, and other areas of strategic national importance.
Mr. Adebomehin was first appointed as the Surveyor-General of the Federation by former President Muhammadu Buhari, effective January 5, 2022.
