The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as the Head of its Election Observation Mission to Côte d’Ivoire ahead of the country’s presidential election scheduled for October 25, 2025.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the ECOWAS Commission announced that the mission will be deployed between October 19 and October 29, in line with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
As Head of Mission, Prof. Osinbajo will lead a team of eminent West African figures tasked with engaging key national stakeholders to promote a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
The statement noted that the team will also work closely with international and domestic observer groups to strengthen collaboration and assess the overall conduct of the polls.
According to ECOWAS, the deployment of the mission reaffirms the regional bloc’s unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and the promotion of democratic governance across West Africa.
