Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy Steps Down After 25 Years

Daniel Levy has stepped down as Executive Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, bringing an end to nearly 25 years in charge of the North London club. The announcement, confirmed on Thursday, marks the close of one of the longest and most influential reigns in Premier League history.

Levy, who first assumed the role in 2001, oversaw the transformation of Tottenham into a global football brand. His tenure included the construction of the £1 billion Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the development of the Hotspur Way training ground, and securing regular European competition. Under his leadership, Spurs generated record revenues, with the club ranked among the top ten globally in financial earnings.

Despite his achievements, Levy’s era has been clouded by criticism. Tottenham won only two major trophies during his time at the helm—the 2008 League Cup and the 2025 Europa League. His transfer strategies and frequent managerial changes drew frustration from supporters who felt the club fell short in converting financial strength into consistent on-field success.

In a statement, Levy said: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level, and more than that, we have built a community.”

Tottenham confirmed that club ownership remains unchanged under ENIC, with the Levy family still retaining its minority stake. Peter Charrington has been appointed Non-Executive Chairman, while Chief Executive Officer Vinai Venkatesham will oversee day-to-day operations.

“This is a new era of leadership,” Charrington said. “We are focused on stability and empowering our talented people across the club, led by Vinai and his executive team.”

Levy’s departure signals a turning point for Tottenham Hotspur, as supporters and pundits debate his legacy—one of financial growth and global stature, tempered by questions over silverware and ambition on the pitch.
