The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced a new directive requiring visa applicants to disclose all social media usernames and handles used within the past five years as part of their application process.
The directive was made public on Monday through the Mission’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, aligning with the U.S. Department of State’s efforts to strengthen national security through enhanced vetting procedures.
According to the statement, all Nigerian applicants must provide a comprehensive list of their social media accounts on the DS-160 visa application form. The Mission emphasized that providing false or incomplete information could result in visa denial and even render an applicant ineligible for future U.S. visas.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Mission stated.
It further warned that applicants certify the accuracy of their information upon submission, and any attempt to omit or misrepresent social media history will carry serious consequences.
