Governor Alia Dissolves Cabinet, Appoints Barr. Moses Atagher as Chief of Staff

The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has announced the dissolution of the Benue State Executive Council, marking the end of the tenure for all serving commissioners in the state.

The announcement came at the close of the 12th Executive Council meeting of 2025, held in Makurdi. In a major administrative reshuffle, the Governor appointed Barr. Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff.

Barr. Atagher, a seasoned administrator and two-time former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Benue State, also previously served as Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. His appointment takes immediate effect.

Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their dedication and contributions over the past two years, noting that the dissolution was part of an inclusive governance strategy to give other citizens a chance to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

“I thank all the former Commissioners who served diligently. For those who may not be reappointed, I urge you to remain committed to the party and continue supporting our administration. This change is to open the space for others to serve,” the Governor said.

He clarified that the dissolution affects only the Commissioners, with all other members of the Executive Council, including Special Advisers and other appointees, remaining in their positions for now.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Commissioners, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim expressed appreciation to the Governor for the opportunity to serve, describing the experience as a period of personal and professional growth.

“At every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you,” Mnyim stated.

The Governor directed all former Commissioners to handover immediately to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries to ensure a smooth transition.
