Death Toll in Gaza Nears 60,000 Amid Renewed Israeli Attacks

At least 59,821 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza since October 2023, according to the Gaza Health Ministry’s update on Sunday.

The ministry reported that 88 more bodies were recovered in the last 24 hours, alongside 374 new injuries, bringing the total number of wounded to 144,851. It added that many victims remain trapped under rubble or on roads inaccessible to rescuers.

The statement also revealed that 11 people were killed and over 36 injured while attempting to collect humanitarian aid in the past day. Since May 27, a total of 1,132 Palestinians have died and over 7,521 have been wounded in similar circumstances.

Israel resumed large-scale attacks on March 18, breaking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal that had taken effect in January. Since the renewed offensive, 8,657 more people have been killed and 32,810 injured.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

In addition, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its military campaign in the territory.
