Elon Musk Blasts Trump’s $2 Trillion Spending Bill, Calls for New Political Party Over Record Debt Hike

Tech billionaire and world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has launched a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s recently proposed $2 trillion spending bill, warning that the legislation could dangerously inflate the national debt ceiling to an unprecedented $5 trillion. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO labelled the bill a catastrophic exercise in “insane spending” and described the U.S. political establishment as a “one-party country” governed by what he mockingly called the “Porky Pig Party.”

Musk’s comments were posted on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed alarm at what he sees as reckless fiscal policies. “It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS, that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!! Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people,” he wrote. His remarks quickly went viral, igniting a national debate on government spending and the future of political alignment in the United States.

The $2 trillion bill—officially titled the One Big Beautiful Bill for America (OBBBA)—is one of Trump’s flagship legislative pushes since returning to office. Touted by its proponents as a bold investment in national infrastructure, job creation, and healthcare expansion, the bill is seen by critics as bloated and fiscally irresponsible. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the bill could add between $2.4 trillion and $2.8 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade.

Musk’s opposition places him at odds with Republican leadership, many of whom had anticipated his support. While Trump previously described Musk as a “wonderful guy,” tensions have since escalated. Sources close to the administration say the president was “furious” over Musk’s social media tirades and has allegedly considered pulling federal contracts from Musk’s companies in retaliation.

House Speaker Mike Johnson defended the legislation as essential to the Trump administration’s “America First” economic agenda but acknowledged that Musk’s criticisms reflect a deeper ideological rift within the Republican Party. “We respect Mr. Musk’s contributions to innovation, but we disagree strongly with his assessment. This bill is about restoring American greatness,” Johnson said during a press briefing.

Several Republican lawmakers, including Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee, echoed Musk’s concerns. They warned that the legislation would drastically increase federal debt while slashing funding for critical programs like Medicaid. “We cannot afford to bankrupt future generations in the name of political vanity,” Paul stated on the Senate floor.
