The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives for the swift arrest of the suspected masterminds behind the Yeletawa community massacre in Benue State, which left several dead and properties destroyed.
The commendation followed a disclosure by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday, confirming the arrest of 53 suspects linked to coordinated attacks in Benue and Plateau states. Egbetokun assured that the suspects will be arraigned promptly, signaling a strong commitment to justice.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the agency’s Deputy Director of Communication and Media, Paul Odenyi, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the development as a clear testament to the security agencies’ dedication to protecting lives and property across the nation.
“This arrest has brought a sense of relief to the affected communities and reinforces citizens’ confidence in the security framework of the country,” Issa-Onilu said.
He added that the prompt action by law enforcement agencies underscores the federal government’s commitment to upholding the principles outlined in the National Values Charter, particularly the promise of peace and security.
The NOA Director-General also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for issuing clear directives during his visit to Benue, instructing security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
“The arrest of these suspects reflects the President’s proactive stance and reaffirms that leadership must be responsive, especially on matters of security,” the statement noted.
Issa-Onilu also praised the collaborative efforts among various security agencies, emphasizing that their synergy was instrumental to the success of the operation. He urged for continued inter-agency cooperation to address the evolving security threats confronting Nigeria.
“Tackling the complex nature of insecurity in the country requires more of this kind of coordinated and decisive action,” he concluded.
The NOA called on citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could help preempt criminal activities and promote national peace.
