Lagos — Hobnob News
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of House on the Rock Church, reported to police headquarters in Ikeja for questioning following a viral video that sparked widespread concern on social media.
The video, which has made rounds online, appears to show the prominent cleric holding a metallic object resembling a firearm during a roadside exchange with another road user. The incident, captured by a passerby, raised questions about public conduct and legal boundaries, prompting police action.
In a post shared Tuesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Lagos State Police Command stated:
“No one is above the law! Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives who have commenced investigation into the case since the video surfaced.”
The statement further indicated that the incident involved an unregistered vehicle and that a thorough investigation was underway. The police pledged to make the outcome of the probe public.
In response to the public uproar, Pastor Adefarasin addressed the situation through his verified social media accounts, assuring his followers and the general public that no firearm was involved.
He described the viral encounter as a misunderstanding, clarifying that the object seen in the video was not a weapon, and was never used to threaten anyone.
“At no point did I point anything at anyone,” he stated. “It was a regrettable misunderstanding, and I am cooperating fully with the authorities to clear up the situation.”
The incident has stirred mixed reactions across various social platforms, with some Nigerians calling for calm and due process, while others urge stricter accountability from public figures.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to justice and transparency, emphasizing that every citizen is subject to the law, regardless of status or influence.
