Residents of Juji community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have raised urgent concerns over the abandonment of a crucial bridge project linking their area to Ungwan Gimbiya, saying the situation has become dire with the onset of the rainy season.
According to a report by Hobnob News, the bridge—left incomplete for several years—has been severely compromised by erosion and stagnant floodwaters, rendering it nearly impassable and posing serious safety risks.
Speaking with reporters, several residents lamented that the route has become a hazard, especially during heavy rainfall, which frequently leaves the area completely cut off from neighboring communities.
“Each time it rains, children can’t get to school, and many parents are unable to leave for work,” a resident said. “We are cut off completely. The waterlogged path is dangerous to cross.”
The abandoned bridge is a vital link for schoolchildren, traders, and daily commuters in Juji, who now face increasing hardship due to the state of the road.
“This is no longer a minor complaint, it’s affecting our survival,” another community member stated.
Residents are calling on the Kaduna State Government and the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA) to urgently intervene by resuming and completing the long-abandoned project. They stress that their safety, economic activities, and access to essential services depend on the completion of the bridge.
The community fears that continued neglect, especially during the peak of the rainy season, could lead to more severe consequences, including accidents and displacement.
