The United States has carried out airstrikes on Iran for the 11th consecutive night, intensifying its military campaign as tensions over the strategic Strait of Hormuz continue to rise and Tehran warns against any attack on its nuclear facilities.
According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest wave of strikes was aimed at weakening Iran’s capacity to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. Military officials said the operation targeted operations centres, maritime assets, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and logistics infrastructure.
Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities, including Tehran, Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak and Bushehr, where the country’s only nuclear power plant is located. Authorities said air defence systems were activated in response to the attacks.
The latest strikes followed comments by US President Donald Trump, who indicated that Washington could soon target an underground nuclear facility near Natanz, known as Pickaxe Mountain. The facility is believed to be a heavily fortified site linked to Iran’s nuclear programme.
In response, Iran warned that any attack on its nuclear infrastructure would be viewed as a major escalation of the conflict. Tehran vowed to retaliate against United States interests and those of its allies if its nuclear facilities come under attack, raising fears of a broader regional confrontation.
