Tarka, Benue State – The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and well-being of corps members posted to the state, urging them to see Benue as a safe and welcoming second home.
Governor Alia, who was represented by Dr. Phillip Nongu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sports, Development and Creativity, gave the assurance during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.
Addressing the 1,303 newly posted corps members, the governor acknowledged the security concerns that may arise when settling in a new environment, but stressed that proactive security measures have been taken in collaboration with relevant agencies.
“While the nation is facing serious security challenges and Benue is not exempted, I assure you that being in this state is just like being in your second home,” he stated. “In partnership with all security agencies, we have fortified all corps member lodges and camp locations to ensure your safety throughout your service year.”
Governor Alia encouraged corps members to embrace the experience with open minds and a sense of purpose, stressing that their postings offer opportunities for growth and development. “Take every activity at the orientation camp seriously. They are structured to equip you for the future and open doors to new opportunities,” he added.
Earlier, Mrs. Veronica Garba, Benue State NYSC Coordinator, expressed appreciation to the governor for his ongoing support of the scheme. She encouraged the corps members to fully participate in all four cardinal programmes of the NYSC scheme, which include:
Orientation courses
Physical fitness training
Lectures and motivational sessions
Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)
“These programmes are tailored to prepare you for life beyond service and to help build your leadership and entrepreneurial skills,” she told the corps members.
Also present at the event was Justice J.N. Adagba, who represented the State Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, and administered the oath of allegiance to the new corps members.
As the new batch embarks on their one-year national service, the Benue State Government’s commitment to ensuring their safety and integration offers a beacon of assurance amid national concerns—an effort that continues to reinforce Benue’s growing reputation as a supportive destination for youth development.
