Aba, Abia State – In a strong show of support, transport unions across Abia State have unanimously endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term in office, praising his ongoing infrastructural transformation—particularly in the commercial city of Aba.
The endorsement came during a massive Two-Million-Man March on Thursday, organised by various transport unions to celebrate what they described as Governor Otti’s “unprecedented performance” in just two years in office.
Speaking at the rally, Mr. Chukwuma Azode, President of the Abia State Cooperative Motor Union, declared the unwavering support of all transport operators for the governor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“From what we are seeing, I don’t think any sensible person should involve himself in anything concerning elections,” Azode stated. “His Excellency has shown extraordinary leadership and deserves to complete eight years in office. Any opposition coming out now is taking a big risk—Abians are solidly behind Governor Alex Otti.”
He emphasized that the event was not politically motivated but rather a collective expression of appreciation for the governor’s achievements. “This march is not political. It’s simply a gathering of people who believe in Governor Otti’s leadership, regardless of political affiliations. His work speaks for itself,” he added.
Azode praised Otti’s ongoing infrastructure upgrades, especially in Aba, which he described as the heartbeat of the state’s economy. “The governor has promised more development for Aba, and we’re already seeing it. That’s why we are here—to show appreciation and encourage continuity,” he concluded.
Echoing the same sentiments, Comrade Victor Azubuike, Chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union, said the rally was a reflection of the gratitude transporters feel across the state.
“Aba transporters are the biggest beneficiaries of the present administration,” Azubuike said. “The smooth movement in Aba today is a direct result of Governor Otti’s intervention in infrastructure. We commend him for being a responsive and visionary leader.”
Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, also addressed the crowd. He noted that the governor’s road construction projects have drastically improved ease of transport and daily life in both rural and urban areas.
“Most of these road projects directly benefit transport operators. We chose Aba for this march because it is the economic hub of the eastern region. The governor has focused a lot of resources here to attract more investors and stimulate commerce,” Nwaogbe said.
The peaceful rally began at Osisioma Junction, moving through Aba-Owerri Road and culminating at Asa Road, with thousands of jubilant residents and transport operators lining the streets in celebration.
As chants of support and drumming echoed across the city, Aba—the famed Enyimba city—came alive with celebration for a governor many now call “the architect of a new Abia.”
