A senior military officer, Lieutenant Commodore M. Buba, was tragically stabbed to death in Kaduna during a robbery attempt at the Kawo Bridge.
The incident occurred when the officer, who was undergoing a course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, experienced a flat tyre while returning to base. According to eyewitness accounts, he had stepped out of his vehicle to change the tyre when an assailant suddenly appeared and demanded his mobile phone and other valuables.
The officer reportedly refused and questioned the demand, prompting the attacker to stab him in the chest with a locally made knife.
Suleiman Dahiru, a local vigilante who witnessed the scene, tried to intervene but was also stabbed in the hand by the assailant.
Eyewitnesses say the attacker was eventually overpowered and lynched by a group of bystanders who arrived shortly after the altercation.
A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Lieutenant Commodore Buba was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His remains were later transferred to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital mortuary in Kaduna for further procedures.
The source added that troops in plain clothes, alongside police and other security personnel, have since been mobilised for covert operations to track and clear criminal elements from known hotspots across Kaduna Metropolis.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident, describing it as “unfortunate” and assured the public that intensified efforts are underway to safeguard the area and restore calm.
