Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 7 Division/Sector 1 of Operation Hadin Kai, in coordination with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have eliminated five Boko Haram terrorists during a successful ambush in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The counterinsurgency operation was revealed by security analyst and counterterrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday night.
According to Makama, the ambush was carried out around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday along the Pulka road axis, near the Mandara Mountains—a notorious route frequently used by terrorist groups.
Quoting military sources, Makama disclosed that the troops, who were deployed from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Pulka, intercepted the insurgents at a suspected crossing point. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of five terrorists, while several others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered at the scene of the ambush included two AK-47 rifles, one AK-47 magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bicycle, and three bags containing grains—believed to be supplies for the insurgents.
The operation is part of a broader military campaign aimed at uprooting the remnants of Boko Haram and its rival faction, ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province), from the North-East region and restoring lasting peace to affected communities.
The Nigerian military has intensified clearance operations in recent months, focusing on disrupting logistics and movement routes used by terrorist elements within the Lake Chad Basin and surrounding territories.
