Nigerian televangelist and founder of Jesus Dominion International Church, Timothy Omotoso, has been rearrested by South African authorities—this time on immigration-related charges.
According to the South African Police Service and the Department of Home Affairs, Omotoso was apprehended early Saturday morning in East London shortly after concluding a church service. The arrest comes just weeks after the 66-year-old was acquitted of 32 serious charges, including rape, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking.
Hobnob News recalls that Omotoso was initially arrested in 2017 following accusations by multiple young women—some still in school—who alleged they were selected by him and subjected to repeated sexual abuse under the guise of spiritual care. Despite spending nine years behind bars awaiting trial, the court cleared him last month of all charges related to the alleged sexual misconduct.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed the latest arrest, noting it was carried out by immigration officers in coordination with the Tactical Response Team. “Omotoso was taken into custody around 5 a.m. on immigration grounds. He is expected to appear in court on Monday, where the specific charges will be made public,” Masemola stated.
Further details regarding the immigration violations are expected to unfold in court proceedings.
