Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Assembly caucus from Rivers State have officially declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The endorsement was conveyed through a joint statement signed by all nine caucus members and presented to the media by Senator Barry Mpigi during a press briefing held on Saturday in Port Harcourt.
The Rivers caucus, comprising two Senators and seven House of Representatives members, cited President Tinubu’s “effective and progressive” agenda and significant achievements as key reasons for their decision. The signatories include Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Hon. Felix Nwaeke, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, and Blessing Amadi.
In their communiqué, the lawmakers called on other presidential aspirants to reconsider their ambitions, emphasizing the need to consolidate the gains of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. They praised the administration’s economic strategies, highlighting improvements in inflation, foreign debt reduction, and growth projections, as recognized by international organizations like the IMF.
“We, the National Assembly members from Rivers State, express profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his trust in our leader, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, particularly for his appointment as Minister of the FCT,” the statement read. “We are equally encouraged by the President’s public commendation of the Minister’s outstanding performance.”
The caucus commended President Tinubu’s efforts in addressing the battered economy and infrastructural decay inherited in 2023, describing his policies as the most pragmatic approach to restoring Nigeria’s socio-economic vitality.
They also lauded Tinubu’s swift intervention in resolving the political crisis in Rivers State, noting that his actions have paved the way for enduring peace in the state.
Reaffirming their commitment, the lawmakers pledged to spearhead massive mobilization efforts across Rivers State to secure an even greater victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
“We urge all Nigerians to rally around the Renewed Hope Agenda and discourage endless presidential ambitions that threaten the nation’s stability,” the caucus declared. “We believe in President Tinubu’s leadership and remain resolute in our support.”
