A 17-year-old boy, Jamiu Adebayo, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling his eight-year-old neighbour in the Aregbe area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to the police, the suspect lured the survivor into his parents’ sitting room, instructed her to remove her underwear, and then defiled her. The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the survivor’s mother, Olabode, was away when neighbours informed her that blood was dripping from her daughter’s private parts.
Initially, the survivor told her parents’ neighbours that a stick had caused the injury. However, after further pressure and persuasion, she confessed to her mother that Adebayo had raped her. The survivor reportedly stated that the suspect had taken her to the bathroom to clean the blood, then instructed her to change into another pair of underwear and lie about the incident.
The police have issued a medical form to the victim and her mother for examination and reporting. Preliminary investigations are currently underway. This incident is the latest in a series of reported child rape cases in Ogun State, highlighting concerns about child safety and the need for increased vigilance and awareness.
