Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has donated an additional N11 million for the rehabilitation of the Lokoja Fish Market cold room. This gesture aims to empower women to be self-reliant and enable them to store their wares when necessary.
In an interview on Monday, Senator Karimi explained that the funds will enhance the storage capacity of the cold room. This is the second N11 million donation made by the senator, following an initial release in December for the rehabilitation of the cold room and provision of solar street lights.
The Lokoja Fish Cold Room, constructed by the late Buba Jubril, has been in dire need of attention for years. The project is being supervised by Lokoja Local Government stakeholders, led by former House of Representatives member Haruna Isah.
Senator Karimi has assured that he will continue to support the women of Lokoja LGA, providing them with necessary aid. Haruna Isah expressed gratitude to Senator Karimi, stating that the work is progressing speedily. Hajia Ramatu Lami, a fish seller, praised the timely gesture, noting that the cold room will help preserve their wares and bring relief to the women in the market.
