Taraba Governor’s Sister Shot by Police Escort During Gunmen Attack

 

Tragedy struck on Thursday when Atsi Kefas, sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, was accidentally shot by a police officer assigned to escort the family. The incident occurred along Kente Road in the Wukari Local Government Area of the state, where gunmen attacked the governor’s mother, Jumai Kefas, and his sister, Atsi, while they were traveling .

According to reports, the police officer shot Atsi Kefas in the confusion during the attack, while attempting to fend off the assailants. The family was traveling through an area known for bandits’ activities, said Zagazola Makama, a security intelligence expert.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of troops saved the situation, rescuing the victims and evacuating Jumai and Atsi Kefas to safety via an air ambulance. Atsi was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but her condition remains unknown .

The Taraba State Police Command confirmed the attack, describing it as an armed robbery incident. The police also confirmed that one of the occupants of the vehicle sustained gunshot injuries, but did not verify if the victims were related to Governor Kefas .
