The Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for its criticism of Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration, accusing the opposition of being disconnected from the realities of governance.
Speaking during a press conference at the APC state secretariat, the Acting State Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, defended the administration’s initiatives, including the Ramat Park Flyover project, which the PDP had labeled controversial. Tenebe clarified that the project was part of the revised 2024 Edo State budget and dismissed allegations of an attack on the PDP secretariat as baseless and unsubstantiated.
He further accused the PDP of fostering a history of “ignoble and violent traits” that have been rejected by Edo residents. He linked pre-election calls for violence by some PDP leaders to unrest in the state, including the killing of a police inspector attached to the governor.
Tenebe took a swipe at the PDP’s track record, stating:
“The PDP, still celebrating its failure, has embarked on a self-destructive voyage to criticize a government that has already surpassed the non-achievements of Governor Obaseki in just a few days of leadership.”
The APC highlighted Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to infrastructure development, citing the Ramat Park Flyover as evidence of governance focused on tangible outcomes. Tenebe rejected PDP’s claims that the project was unrealistic, noting that the governor had proven otherwise through action.
“Edo people are now happy that a governor who understands their plight is tackling issues head-on and delivering on projects the PDP could not achieve in eight years,” he asserted.
Tenebe also refuted allegations that APC members attacked the PDP secretariat, describing the accusations as baseless and urging the PDP to provide credible evidence.
“The alleged act must be proven beyond reasonable doubt. Suspicion alone has no place in our criminal statutes,” he emphasized.
In response to PDP leaders’ claims about the compromise of INEC’s Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the September 21 governorship election, Tenebe accused the PDP of introducing unauthorized BVAS devices into the process. He called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the manipulated devices and the dissemination of false election results.
Concluding his address, Tenebe reaffirmed APC’s commitment to delivering progress under Okpebholo’s leadership.
“His Excellency has put his hand on the plow and is ready to place Edo State on the map of progressives.”
The APC called on residents to continue supporting the party’s vision for a prosperous Edo State while reiterating its full confidence in the Okpebholo administration.
