The Edo State Government has reinstated the Edo State Security Corps, lifting a suspension imposed in September 2024. Governor Monday Okpebholo announced the decision, emphasizing the state’s commitment to enhancing public safety.
The suspension, initiated by the Inspector General of Police before the September 21 gubernatorial election, was in line with constitutional provisions assigning election security to the Nigeria Police Force and other agencies within the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). With the elections successfully concluded, the government has now restored the Security Corps to fortify Edo State’s security framework.
“All returning officers are required to report to the State Corps Commander or their respective zonal offices in the North, Central, and South zones,” stated the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikilor. This directive aims to ensure a seamless transition and efficient deployment of personnel.
In a press release, Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, reiterated the government’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens, noting that the reinstatement reflects the administration’s broader commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state.
The Edo State Security Corps is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
