The Governing Council of Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, led by its Chairman, Dr. Victoria Pila, has paid a homage visit to the palace of the Tor Tiv, HRM Orcivirigh Prof James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse CFR.
The council members, who were on a familiarization tour of the polytechnic, sought the Tor Tiv’s royal blessings and wise counsel to achieve better results in their assignment, as bestowed by Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Dr. Pila highlighted the multifarious challenges confronting the polytechnic, including lack of funding, plight of casual staff, unaccredited programs, and low enrollment. The Chairman assured the Tor Tiv that the council is determined to address these challenges and bring the polytechnic to global standards.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Simon Iorchor, expressed confidence in the caliber of people Governor Alia has selected, noting that their coming on board will make a tremendous impact.
The Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Ayatse, regretted that the school, once the pride of Benue State, has now reached a crossroads. However, he assured the council of the full support of the traditional institution to revive the polytechnic.
He advised the governing council and management team to explore all available means to salvage the institution, considering its strategic location in the traditional headquarters of the Tiv nation and its naming after the late Tor Tiv Akeran Orshi.
The visit was attended by members of the Governing Council, including Mr. Samuel Agwa, Mr. Joseph Adi, Mr. Nicholas Ugallahi, and Theresa Ikwue, as well as statutory members from ministries and internal members from within the polytechnic.
