Benue PDP stakeholders gathered for a press conference on August 20, 2024, to address the current state of affairs within the party. The stakeholders emphasized the need for peace, unity, and respect for authority to move the party forward.
While acknowledging challenges arising from the ongoing elective congresses, the stakeholders viewed them as a natural outcome of the exercise. They commended the National Working Committee, led by Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, for their direction and support.
The stakeholders expressed gratitude to the National Ward Congress Committee and the National Ward Congresses Appeal Panel for their work in conducting the Ward congresses and addressing petitions. They welcomed the Caretaker State Working Committee, led by AVM (Rtd.) Napoleon Bali, and commended the National Local Government Congress Committee for their efforts.
A vote-of-confidence was passed on the National Working Committee, the Leader of the PDP in Benue State, His Excellency Samuel Ortom, and the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Patrick Abba Moro. The Caretaker State Working Committee also received a vote-of-confidence.
The stakeholders urged the Benue PDP family to close ranks and prioritize the party’s interests above individual or group interests. They encouraged those who succeeded in the Ward and Local Government Executive Committees to be magnanimous in victory and reach out to those who aspired alongside them.
The stakeholders called for adherence to the party’s laws and urged members to resolve disputes internally. They encouraged aggrieved members to withdraw court cases and abide by the party’s laws.
