Members of the National Rescue Movement NRM, led by state chairman Sam Alasi, gathered at the entrance gate of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to express their dissatisfaction over the exclusion of their gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, from the list of candidates for the upcoming September 21st gubernatorial election in Edo state.
According to the state chairman, the party’s gubernatorial primaries were conducted in accordance with the guidelines set by INEC and were duly monitored by the electoral commission. He questioned why Dr. Aikoriogie’s name was not included in the final list of candidates recently released by INEC.
The protesters demanded an explanation from INEC officials and called for the immediate inclusion of their candidate in the list of contestants for the gubernatorial election. They emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the electoral process and expressed their discontent with what they perceived as an oversight or error in the compilation of the candidate list.
As tensions rose outside the INEC office, the state chairman reiterated the party’s commitment to following due process and ensuring that their candidate is given a fair chance to participate in the upcoming election. The protest concluded peacefully, with the NRM members vowing to continue advocating for their candidate’s inclusion in the electoral race.
