The General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, addressed a concerning issue on Thursday regarding the unauthorized use of LASTMA uniforms in movies and skits. This statement came after a viral video circulating on social media depicted two actors in fake LASTMA uniforms, with one of them being revived through a diabolical means after impounding a white ‘Sienna’ Space bus on the road.
Expressing disappointment at the disrespectful portrayal of the LASTMA institution in such productions, Bakare-Oki highlighted the violation of Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, which criminalizes the unauthorized use of official uniforms.
Bakare-Oki sternly warned film and skit makers against impersonating LASTMA officers without obtaining the necessary permit letter for such portrayals. He emphasized that those found in violation of this directive would face legal consequences as stipulated by the law.
In an effort to maintain decorum in movie production and regulate the possession and usage of LASTMA uniforms, Bakare-Oki urged organizations like the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) to caution their members. He reiterated that individuals caught using LASTMA uniforms without proper authorization would be prosecuted in accordance with Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The proactive measures set forth by the LASTMA boss aim to curb the misuse and proliferation of the agency’s attire and accessories within society, ensuring that respect for the institution and its personnel is upheld.
