In a press release, the NFF spokesperson, Murtala Abubakar, said, “We would like to categorically state that the news circulating about a new Super Eagles jersey is false. The NFF has not launched any new design for the team’s kit, and the images circulating on social media are not official.”
The viral images that caused the frenzy among fans showed a green jersey with white stripes on the sleeves for the home kit, while the away kit featured a white jersey with green stripes. Fans immediately praised the alleged new design, hailing it as striking and stylish.
The NFF’s statement has left many fans disappointed, as they were eagerly anticipating a fresh look for the national team ahead of AFCON 2023. However, the spokesperson reassured fans that any new kit design would be officially announced and launched by the federation in due time.
“We appreciate the passion and enthusiasm of our fans, as they eagerly await a new Super Eagles jersey. Rest assured, if and when a new design is launched, it will be officially announced by the Nigeria Football Federation,” Abubakar added.
The Super Eagles have long been known for their iconic green jersey, which has become synonymous with Nigerian football. The current design, worn during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, received positive reviews for its modern aesthetic and homage to the team’s history.
As fans continue to eagerly anticipate a new jersey launch, it remains to be seen whether the NFF will surprise them with a fresh design ahead of AFCON 2023. In the meantime, supporters will have to make do with the current Super Eagles kit as they cheer on their team in upcoming matches.
