Police To Punish Public Ridicule Of Kano Emir

Kano State Police command has vowed to clamp down on the youths that staged protest against the Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero, at the public function.

Hobnob News reports  gathered that some youths invaded the commissioning of Hasiyya Bayero Paediatric, Hospital, attended by Governor Abba Yusuf and the monarch, chanting ‘Sabon Sarki’, ‘Sabon Gomna’, a local language demanding a new emir.

Although, the state government has yet to react to the insult on the revered traditional institution, political undertone was read into the recent replacement of Emir Bayero’s portrait with that of his predecessor, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Addressing journalists, yesterday, at NUJ Secretariat in Kano, Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Gumel, who confirmed the development, said any attempt by any individual to disparage the Kano Emirate Council would be met with equal force.

Gumel described the protesters as group of ‘miscreants’ acting under political influence to cause needless crisis in the emirate, adding that security would be assertive against those plotting to obstruct the relative peace in Kano.

Besides, the police boss has invited six persons identified in a video footage among the protesters for interrogation. He said unless identified members of the group voluntarily surrender themselves to the police, they would be arrested alongside their sponsors.

Briefing Hobnob News reporters on successes recorded in his first 100 days in Kano, Gumel narrated how over 1,000 suspects were arrested for various crimes and criminalities.

He said: “On assumption of duty in Kano three months and some days ago, I met gamut of cases of insecurity, including kidnapping, drug peddling and abuse, theft, cattle rustling, car theft, phone snatching and so many other criminalities.”

We deployed our strategies and intelligence gathering. I am glad to inform you that 1,000 criminal suspects have been arrested and they are awaiting trial. It may interest you to note that about 100 criminals in Kano have voluntarily surrendered arms and pledged repentance. They are now helping us with information.
