By Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie
2024 Edo State Governorship Candidate
I have carefully followed the concerns raised by Comrade Ikhuenbor Felix Igbinevbo (Mr. Figo) regarding the organisation of the Edo Carnival 2026, and I wish to state clearly that I stand in support of every lawful call for transparency, accountability, and good governance in Edo State.
The questions raised by Comrade Igbinevbo are legitimate issues of public interest. They deserve clear and honest answers from the Edo State Government. When public funds are involved, citizens have a constitutional right to seek clarification on how decisions are made and whether due process has been followed.
If, as widely reported, a serving government appointee is associated with a private company engaged to organise a government-funded event, then the government owes Edo people a transparent explanation. Equally important is the role of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, which was established by law to oversee matters relating to arts and culture in our state.
This is not about attacking any individual. It is about protecting the integrity of our public institutions and ensuring that government actions remain transparent, ethical, and accountable to the people.
I also wish to state that I am closely monitoring the reported invitation extended to Comrade Ikhuenbor Felix Igbinevbo by the Department of State Services (DSS). I will continue to follow the matter until I see the outcome of that invitation. Every Nigerian has the constitutional right to express lawful opinions on matters of public interest, and due process must always prevail.
As leaders and citizens, we must never be afraid to ask questions that promote accountability. Democracy thrives when government is open, institutions are respected, and the voices of the people are heard.
I therefore call on the Edo State Government to address the issues raised with openness and sincerity. Transparency builds trust, and accountability strengthens democracy.
