The amalgamation of Malumfashi Students Old Boys Union and the concerned Malumfashi Progressive Group have jointly called on Katsina State Governor, Umar Radda to abide by the National Assembly Act that located the new Federal University of Medical Science and Biomedical Technology in Malumfashi.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Students Old Boys Union, Badamasi Haiba, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH in Kano on Tuesday.
According to the statement, “The National Assembly passed a bill titled “An Act to provide for the establishment of Federal University of Medical Sciences and Biomedical Technology in six geo-political zones and matters connected therewith”
The Act provides for the establishment of three Medical Sciences Universities and BioMedical Technology in each of the six geo-political zones across the country. The bill was passed by the Senate (SB 678) on Tuesday, April 5th, 2022.
Details in the Act establishing the Universities in the North-West geo-political zones indicated the three locations namely; Dange Shuni in Sokoto State; Kabo in Kano State and Malumfashi in Katsina State.
The Students Old Boys Union and the Progressive Group expressed fears that a certain force has moved to hijack the institution away from Malumfashi and plead with the Katsina State Governor, Umar Radda, to be fair and not to be a part of the beginning of sowing a seed of discord in his state.
The group explained that the force aiming to hijack the Institution should wait for the approved Act establishing the Federal University of Science and Technology Funtua, which the immediate past Senator of Katsina South Senatorial District, Senator Bello Mandiya sponsored and got passed by the Senate.
Explaining further, the spokesperson said, “It’s very clear, there is no controversy whatsoever here. Katsina South Senatorial District was lucky to have two Federal Universities approved for them by the 9th National Assembly; University of Medical Science and BioMedical Technology in Malumfashi and that of Science and Technology in Funtua”
The Group commended the predetermined position of Governor Radda for agreeing that the Katsina Southern senatorial zone was more deserving to have the two Universities considering the concentration of higher educational institutions of learning in Katsina Central and North.
“We plead with Governor Radda to uphold his known integrity and seen to be exhibiting the fairness he promised in the governance of the state and not to be allowed to be intimidated by any force,” Haiba said.
