UI, OAU, others peg cut-off at 200

The University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Benin, and the University of Lagos are the Federal Universities that pegged their minimum benchmark for admissions at 200 cumulative scores obtainable during the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations, The PUNCH reports.

Our correspondent gathered that prior to the 2023 policy meeting held by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, all institutions were advised to propose the cut-off marks for the conduct of their admissions.

In the list sighted by our correspondent in Abuja, seven institutions indicated their minimum admissions benchmark scores to be 200 and above out of which four were federal universities.

The PUNCH reports that Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian universities present at the 2023 policy meeting, however, unanimously agreed on 140 as the minimum benchmark for the admissions of the 2023/2024 academic session.

However, universities are at liberty to decide individual cut-off marks but no university will be allowed to admit any candidate who scored below the 140 benchmark, JAMB registrar, Prof.Ishaq Oloyede said.

For the polytechnics, the minimum benchmark score of 100 was adopted for admissions while Colleges of Education adopted the benchmark of 100 for admissions.
