~A Direct Message from Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie -2024 Edo State Governorship Candidate
Governor Monday Okpebholo needs to understand one fundamental truth: the people of Edo State did not elect him to become APC’s travelling campaign manager. They elected him to govern Edo State.
Today, the question Edo people should be asking is: Is the Governor spending enough time governing the state, or is he spending too much time pursuing partisan political activities outside Edo?
There is nothing wrong with supporting one’s political party. But governance is a full-time responsibility. Edo State has serious challenges that require the Governor’s attention. Our people need better infrastructure, improved healthcare, quality education, employment opportunities, investment and effective security.
So, if Governor Okpebholo is genuinely focused on governing Edo, when does he find the time to attend virtually every off-cycle election campaign?
A Governor who spends excessive time campaigning outside his state risks neglecting the mandate given to him by his own people.
And let me be clear about the Davido controversy: I will not condemn Davido simply because he criticized the Governor. The saying that he who lives in a glass house should not throw stones applies to everyone, including politicians and their supporters.
If the Governor disagrees with Davido, he should respond with maturity—or better still, ignore the distraction entirely.
Because Edo people are not interested in celebrity quarrels.
They are interested in governance.
They want to know what this administration is doing about the problems confronting them. They want measurable results, not endless political appearances. They want leadership, not publicity.
Governor Okpebholo should therefore stop allowing frivolities and political distractions to dominate his public engagement.
Your job is to govern Edo State, Mr. Governor—not to campaign endlessly for the APC.
Let the roads, schools, hospitals, security improvements, jobs and investments speak for you.
If your administration performs, nobody will need to defend you on social media.
And if it fails, no amount of political rallies across Nigeria will hide that failure.
Edo State deserves a Governor who is present, focused and accountable—not a Governor who appears more interested in the next election than the problems of the people who elected him.
Mr. Governor, face Edo State. Govern Edo State. Stop the distractions. Your real campaign should be your performance in office.
