Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that political leaders under a newly formed coalition in Rivers State have agreed to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a televised interview on Tuesday, Wike said the political alliance comprises members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and Action Alliance (AA). He explained that the coalition was established to promote political stability, inclusiveness, and effective governance in Rivers State.
“We have all agreed for one thing – that we are going to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That is taken,” Wike declared.
According to the minister, the coalition is committed to ensuring that all political interests in the state are adequately represented while working together to secure Tinubu’s second term in office.
“We will take care so that it becomes all-inclusive… it is working like wildfire,” he said.
Wike noted that the new political arrangement would help eliminate the intense rivalry that has often characterized elections in Rivers State, replacing it with a spirit of cooperation among major political parties.
“Before now, you would have been seeing… PDP and APC will be fighting. Now what we have is a situation where Labour Party, PDP, APC, AA all together,” he stated.
The FCT minister stressed that the coalition’s primary objective is to advance the interests of Rivers State rather than pursue partisan agendas.
“My interest is my people, Rivers State. If Rivers State is relevant, I’m happy… Relevant in terms of projects, relevant in terms that people are part of the government,” Wike said.
His remarks come as political parties and key stakeholders across the country begin strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu widely expected to seek a second term in office.
