Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of the Philippines, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), has presented copies of his Letters of Credence (copie d’usage) to the Philippine authorities as part of the diplomatic accreditation process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed the development in a post on its official X handle on Thursday, July 30.
According to the ministry, the ambassador-designate presented the copies of his Letters of Credence to Ariel R. Penaranda, Assistant Secretary (Chief of Protocol) at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines.
The ministry stated that the presentation of the credentials represents an important diplomatic procedure preceding the formal presentation of the Letters of Credence to the President of the Philippines.
“Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), the Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to the Philippines, presented copies of his Letters of Credence (copie d’usage) to Ariel R. Penaranda, Assistant Secretary (Chief of Protocol) at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines,” the ministry said.
The ministry further disclosed that the ambassador-designate was accompanied by Ms. Regina Aondona, Minister (Deputy Head of Mission), and Mr. Obinna Onyima, Counselor (Political and Economy), during the official engagement.
The presentation of copies of the Letters of Credence is a standard diplomatic protocol that precedes the formal assumption of duties by an ambassador, paving the way for the strengthening of bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Philippines.
Earlier, Nigeria’s Envoy to Portugal also presented his Letters of Credence as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic engagements with nations across the globe.
