Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The high-level regional summit is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the summit will bring together Heads of State and Government, ministers, senior government officials, business leaders, and representatives of regional institutions from across West Africa to deliberate on critical issues affecting the sub-region.
Discussions at the summit are expected to focus on key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening peace, democracy, regional security, economic growth, trade, and sustainable development among ECOWAS member states.
The gathering will also reaffirm the commitment of West African leaders to deeper regional integration and enhanced cooperation in addressing common challenges facing the bloc.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his official engagements in Sierra Leone.
