The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed claims by an African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by Nafiu Bala that it gained access to the commission’s nomination portal and successfully uploaded candidates for the 2027 general election.
The claim, which circulated widely on social media, alleged that Bala’s faction had obtained INEC’s access code and submitted the party’s candidates through the commission’s online nomination platform.
Reacting to the reports, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, described the claim as false, stressing that the commission does not recognise Nafiu Bala as the National Chairman of the ADC.
“It is not true,” Eta-Messi stated, dismissing the allegation.
A review of INEC’s official political parties portal also contradicts Bala’s claim. The portal currently lists Senator David Mark as the recognised National Chairman of the ADC, while Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is recognised as the party’s National Secretary, indicating that they remain the officials authorised to handle nominations and other official dealings with the electoral commission.
The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s leadership ahead of preparations for the 2027 general election.
INEC’s clarification effectively rejects reports by Bala’s faction that it had accessed the commission’s nomination system and uploaded candidates, reaffirming that only officials recognised by the electoral body can conduct such party activities.
