Vladimir Putin has declared that Russia has the resources and political resolve to withstand the latest sanctions imposed by the European Union.
Speaking at the congress of the United Russia in Moscow on Sunday, Putin said Russia was capable of resisting efforts aimed at slowing its progress despite continued economic restrictions.
He accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as recruiting individuals inside Russia to conduct acts of sabotage and terrorism. He also criticised Western nations for ignoring what he described as hostile actions against Russia while continuing to impose what he called unlawful sanctions.
According to Putin, the country possesses enough resources, financial capacity and political determination to withstand external pressure, insisting that attempts to weaken Russia have failed.
The latest round of sanctions announced by the European Union last week will remain in force for one year. The bloc has introduced 20 sanctions packages against Russia since the outbreak of the full-scale war in February 2022.
Putin argued that the intensified pressure from Western governments reflects their inability to defeat Russia militarily. He also maintained that attempts to create political instability within the country have been unsuccessful, accusing the West of using Ukraine as a tool in its confrontation with Moscow.
He concluded by expressing confidence that Russia would continue addressing domestic challenges, strengthen its economy through technological development, and safeguard its borders for years to come.
