The Kano State Fire Service has recorded 58 fire incidents and 13 deaths across the state in May 2026, according to the agency’s monthly operational report.
The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
The statement quoted the Director of the Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, as saying that the agency responded to a total of 80 emergency calls between May 1 and May 31, covering fire outbreaks, rescue operations and false alarms.
According to Anas, 58 of the calls were related to fire incidents, while 15 were rescue operations and seven were false alarms.
“Out of the total calls received, 58 were fire incidents, 15 were rescue operations, while seven were false alarms,” he stated.
The Director revealed that 13 persons lost their lives during the period in separate incidents, including fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents and cases involving ponds and wells.
Despite the fatalities, he noted that firefighters successfully rescued dozens of people from various emergencies across the state.
“We successfully saved 34 lives during our rescue operations across the state,” Anas said.
He further disclosed that fire outbreaks during the month resulted in the destruction of properties valued at more than ₦144 million.
However, prompt intervention by firefighters helped save properties worth approximately ₦437 million from being consumed by fire.
According to the report, the estimated value of property lost stood at over ₦144 million, while property worth about ₦437 million was salvaged through the agency’s efforts.
Anas urged residents to exercise caution in handling fire-related activities and adopt preventive measures to reduce the occurrence of fire disasters.
“We are calling on members of the public to adopt proper fire safety measures to prevent avoidable disasters,” he said.
The Fire Service Director reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response, public enlightenment campaigns and proactive fire prevention strategies.
He assured residents that the service would continue to strengthen its operations to ensure the safety of communities across Kano State.
