Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has threatened to lead an “Occupy Aso Rock” protest if abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State are not urgently rescued.
Sowore made the declaration in a post shared on his account on X on Sunday, expressing deep concern over the safety of the pupils and urging authorities to act swiftly to secure their release.
He condemned the rising cases of abductions across Nigeria and warned that continued insecurity could force citizens to take to the streets in protest if the government fails to protect schoolchildren and other vulnerable groups.
According to him, the proposed “Occupy Aso Rock” demonstration would be aimed at demanding accountability and immediate action from the Federal Government should efforts to rescue the kidnapped children prove unsuccessful. Aso Rock
The threat comes amid growing public anxiety over insecurity and repeated incidents of kidnappings targeting schools and rural communities in different parts of Nigeria, including the recent abduction in Oyo State.
As of the time of filing this report, government authorities had yet to issue an official response to Sowore’s statement.
