The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan to decline the presidential ticket reportedly offered to him by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Keyamo stated that the PDP faction responsible for offering the ticket lacks legal recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), making the move politically and legally questionable.
Speaking on the development, the minister urged Jonathan to politely reject the offer, stressing that accepting a ticket from a faction not recognized by the electoral body could create unnecessary controversy and uncertainty.
According to Keyamo, only party structures and leadership recognized by INEC have the authority to conduct valid party activities, including the nomination of candidates for elective offices.
The minister maintained that Jonathan, as a former president and respected statesman, should distance himself from any arrangement that does not have the backing of the legally recognized leadership of the PDP.
The development comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the opposition party, with various factions laying claim to the party’s leadership and political direction ahead of future elections.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Jonathan nor the PDP had officially responded to Keyamo’s remarks.
