A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has announced plans to hold a special convention on Saturday to formally ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The announcement was contained in an invitation issued late Thursday and jointly signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Emebong, and National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan.

According to the invitation, delegates, party stakeholders and members of the faction’s national leadership are expected to attend the convention, where Jonathan’s adoption as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general election will be formally endorsed.

The faction described the planned convention as a crucial step toward repositioning the PDP ahead of the next electoral cycle, expressing confidence that Jonathan’s experience and leadership credentials would strengthen the party’s chances in the presidential race.

While details of the venue and full programme of the convention were not immediately disclosed, party insiders said consultations had intensified among loyalists of the former president and key stakeholders within the faction.

The development comes amid ongoing internal realignments within the PDP as various blocs continue consultations over the party’s future leadership and strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 under the PDP platform.
