Presidency Threatens Legal Action Against VDM Over Alleged Fake Tinubu Audio

The Presidency on Wednesday vowed to prosecute popular Nigerian social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, over the alleged dissemination of a fake audio recording involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to reports by Nova News, an X user identified as @Pious_minister shared a post claiming that an AI-generated audio of the President was used in one of VDM’s videos.
The controversial audio allegedly featured a voice resembling President Tinubu, claiming that insecurity in Nigeria would persist because Nigerians did not vote for him during the 2023 presidential election.
Reacting to the development, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, condemned the alleged circulation of the audio and warned that legal action would be taken against the social media influencer.
In a post shared on his official X handle, Onanuga wrote, “This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu.
“This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”
However, a quick review conducted by Nova News reportedly showed that no such audio could be found in any of VDM’s published videos at the time of filing this report.
