Marc Cucurella could leave Chelsea before the arrival of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager, according to reports from Spain.
Barcelona are said to be preparing to intensify talks over a potential move for the Spain international left-back ahead of the summer transfer window.
Cucurella is approaching the end of his fourth season at Chelsea after joining the Premier League side from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 in a deal worth £60 million.
The 27-year-old, who came through the academy at Espanyol before moving to FC Barcelona, has established himself as one of Chelsea’s standout performers during a difficult campaign in which the Blues risk missing out on European football.
Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to appoint Alonso as their new manager, with the former midfielder expected to officially take charge in July.
However, reports suggest Alonso may begin his tenure without Cucurella, as Barcelona are expected to open negotiations with Chelsea in the coming week.
Speaking on the Solo para Cules podcast, El Chiringuito journalist Jota Jordi claimed Cucurella is likely to return to La Liga this summer.
According to Jordi, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are currently the two clubs most interested in securing the defender’s signature.
