The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially announced the appointment of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as its new National Chairman, marking a significant leadership transition within the party.
The development follows the sudden resignation of the former chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The reshuffle, approved by the party’s National Working Committee, comes at a time of growing political realignments as opposition parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, confirmed the leadership change and expressed confidence in the new chairman’s capabilities.
Johnson described Mohammed, a former National Organising Secretary from Kaduna State, as a seasoned administrator equipped to steer the party through the current political climate.
“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party is pleased to announce the election of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as our new National Chairman,” Johnson said.
He also addressed the departure of Ahmed, noting that the party maintains a cordial relationship with its former leader.
“The NNPP takes this opportunity to formally acknowledge the departure of Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, who has resigned his appointment to join the African Democratic Congress. We thank him for his dedicated service and wish him well in his future political endeavours,” he added.
The party noted that the transition comes at a critical period for Nigeria, citing worsening economic conditions and rising political tensions. Despite these challenges, the NNPP expressed strong confidence in Mohammed’s ability to strengthen party structures and improve its electoral prospects.
Framing the leadership change as a renewed push for national transformation, Johnson called on party members and Nigerians to rally behind the new leadership.
“Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man. Under the leadership of Honourable Bala, we are not just preparing for an election; we are preparing to salvage a nation,” he stated.
He further подчеркed that Mohammed’s emergence signals unity within the party and a renewed commitment to offering Nigerians credible governance.
The NNPP concluded by urging its supporters to unite and strengthen the party as it gears up for the 2027 general elections.
