President Donald Trump asserted that the ongoing US-Israel conflict has effectively brought about a change in Iran’s leadership. He also expressed his intent to negotiate with Tehran.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said, “I believe we will reach an agreement with them, quite certain … but we have experienced regime change,” referring to the number of Iranian officials killed during the conflict.
He added, “We are engaging with individuals who are unlike any we have dealt with previously. This is an entirely different group of individuals. Therefore, I would classify this as regime change.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s stance last week when asked about his claims, asking rhetorically, “Has it not?” She highlighted that Iran’s entire leadership had been eliminated, noting that the new leadership is largely unseen or unheard from. She concluded, “There has been a shift in the regime leadership, which aligns with what the president stated, so thank you for affirming that he is correct.”
