Chinedu Onyeizu: A Shining Light in Nigerian Engineering and Philanthropy
Chinedu Onyeizu, a highly accomplished Nigerian petroleum engineer, has made waves in the energy sector with his innovative approaches and leadership roles. Starting his career with PTDF Gas research group in 2004, he spent three years researching ways to harness Nigeria’s deepwater stranded gas resources. This earned him the Best Young Engineer in West Africa Award in 2006 for developing a geospatial model for oil spill vulnerability monitoring in the Niger-Delta.
Onyeizu’s expertise spans working with Chevron Nigeria Limited and as an expatriate in Louisiana’s Gulf of Mexico, where he’s led teams and managed multi-million dollar projects. He’s an active member of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers and represents Chevron on the Global Production and Operations Award committee.
With advanced degrees from Harvard University, Heriot-Watt University, and MIT, Onyeizu is a force to be reckoned with. At MIT, he was a Sloan Fellow and researched solutions to fuel scarcity challenges in Nigeria’s petroleum downstream sector.
Beyond engineering, Onyeizu is passionate about giving back. Through The Chinedu Onyeizu Foundation, he’s making strides in empowering Nigerian youth. He’s also co-founder of Afri-PERA, a think tank focused on Africa, and serves on boards of Rhino Group of Companies.
Onyeizu’s foray into politics was a surprise! Joining the Abia South senatorial race on the APC platform in 2019, he showed his commitment to reshaping Nigerian youth’s mindset on leadership. He believes the youth hold the key to Nigeria’s socio-economic development and is bridging the gap in youth leadership participation.
Chinedu’s story is one of service, leadership, and impact and has been overwhelmingly nominated amongst Top 100 leaders and entrepreneurs from the South East geographical region of Nigeria.
